By the time you complete reading this short message over 2-3 lives of women would have been lost from cases of domestic violence; millions of women in the UK will be suffering from domestic related issues. 1 in 4 women in the UK suffer from DV during their lifetime in the UK. However, this may not reflect the minority communities and especially the Muslim communities due to the general reluctance of people within such communities speaking about it, as sadly it remains a taboo subject.
A marriage is where a man and woman come together to find peace and solace. It should be like a home that provides comfort, security, warmth and protection. However, unfortunately, for millions of people it is like a dungeon where there is continuous emotional, psychological and physical suffering.
The scheme, named “Clare’s Law” after a Manchester woman who was killed by a man she met on Facebook, will begin with trials in Wiltshire and Gwent, before being rolled out nationally.
Clare Wood, 36, was strangled by ex-boyfriend George Appleton in 2009 – he set her body on fire before hanging himself.
Her family later discovered that he had a history of violence against women, including kidnapping an ex-girlfriend at knifepoint.
Nour has delivered empowering sessions, as promised, on healthy marital lifestyles. This may not solve all cases of domestic violence, but at least it aims to tackle the roots to prevent its occurrence, as it is better than cure. One of the seminars covered was based on managing anger, from which we have taken some important lessons and have managed to give you a more holistic view of avoiding conflict in the home. InshaAllah this benefits and reaches out to those who need understanding of behavioural relapses which causes anger and damaging results; and provides reassurance to those on the receiving end.
